SAMPLE THEMED CEREMONY: Keith & Valery's
1950s Backyard
Wedding
Welcome family and friends. We are here today to share and
celebrate Keith and Valery’s commitment to each other. The
theme of this wedding is the 1950s and I’d like to invite you
to either remember back or imagine a time filled with the
energy of change.
Hollywood dazzled us with movie stars like Marilyn Monroe and
James Dean. Jukeboxes played Elvis, Buddy Holly and Chuck
Berry. Teenagers fell in love at the drive-in movie, or corner
store soda fountains. Poodle skirts, sock hops, cruising in a
pink Cadillac.
It was a time to be young, carefree, in love. To be full of
hope and believe in promises for the future. Just as Keith and
Valery are at this mark in the timeline of their lives.
As we remember back in time, reflect upon our own futures, and
store in our hearts the happiness of this day, let us remember
this wedding is more than a celebration. This day reaches into
the future and proclaims the intentions Keith and Valery have
for each other, which tomorrow shall hold, fixing like a star
on the horizon.
Keith and Valery, you have come today,
after considerable thought and reflection, to enter into a
bond of marriage. I ask that you remember, as with any aspect
of life, marriage is a journey, it has its cycles, its ups and
its downs, its trials and its triumphs. You will not only by
joined by the love you share, but also by your hopes, dreams
and by your resolve, come what may, to remain together through
time as husband and wife, as father and mother.
The promises and vows you make today shall aid you in this
pursuit, and guide you into your future. The words, promises
and commitments in this ceremony are formed from your love and
commitment to one another, and your mutual understanding that
love is life’s greatest challenge and ultimate reward. Today
you lay another layer of groundwork of your life together,
strengthening each layer you have laid before, creating a
solid foundation for your family.
Keith, will you love Valery, comfort her,
honor and keep her all the days of your journey through life
together?[ I will] Are you are able to live by these promises
through good times and bad, in sickness and in health? [I am]
If you will please repeat your vows to Valery after me:
With love in my heart,
and for the entire world to see,
I offer you my hand to hold forever,
I promise to love, honor, cherish and respect you,
To encourage you and stand by you
no matter how bumpy the road may be.
I will tenderly care for you for all of my life,
And I will be your best friend forever,
From this day forward,
my heart will be your home
Do you have a ring for your bride? [I do]
If you will please place the ring on
Valery’s finger and repeat after me:
"With this ring I promise you
my honesty my integrity my trust and my
love
This day and forever more."
Valery,
will you love Keith, comfort him, honor and
keep him all the days of your journey through life together?[
I will] Are you are able to live by these promises through
good times and bad, in sickness and in health? [I am] If you
will please repeat your vows to Keith after me:
With love in my heart,
and for the entire world to see,
I offer you my hand to hold forever,
I promise to love, honor, cherish and respect you,
To encourage you and stand by you
no matter how bumpy the road may be.
I will tenderly care for you for all of my life,
And I will be your best friend forever,
From this day forward,
my heart will be your home.
Do you have a ring for your groom? [I do] If you will please
place the ring on Keith’s finger and repeat after me:
"With this ring I promise you
my honesty my integrity my trust and my
love
This day and forever more."
Will you please hold hands?
Keith and Valery, in your hand is the hand of your best
friend, young and strong and full of love for you, bearing a
ring that symbolizes the promise to love each other today,
tomorrow, and forever.
Each of you hold the hand that will work
alongside yours as together you build your future.
Hands that will passionately love you and
cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch
will comfort you like no other.
Hands that will tenderly hold your children
and will help you to hold your family as one.
These hands, even when wrinkled and aged,
will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same
unspoken tenderness with just a touch.
Glenn
Miller first performed a song titled ‘At Last’ in 1942. Etta
James’s performance of the song is one of the most popular
versions still today. It is a song that makes you close your
eyes and fall in love. It is a song that perfectly shares how
Keith and Valery feel in their hearts,
“At last, my love has come along,
My lonely days are over,
And life is like a song,
“At last,
The stars above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover,
The night I looked at you
I
found a dream that I could speak to,
A dream that I, can call my own,
I found a thrill, to press my cheek to,
A thrill that I, have never known,
You smile, you smile
And then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven,
For you are mine, at last!”
Keith and Valery, you have made your vows and promises to each
other. From this moment forth, always look to your future and
remember what you can and will be able to create together.
Remember the journey that brought you to each day of your
lives together. Remember, that, at last, your lonely days are
over.
It is with great honor and by the power of your love and the
authority vested in me, to now pronounce you as your hearts
have always known you to be, Husband and Wife. May the fire in
your souls forever burn.
Family and friends, I introduce to you Mr. & Mrs. …
Keith, you may kiss your bride!
