SAMPLE ELOPEMENT CEREMONY, from Shawn & Amy, 09-18-2009 Gooseridge Winery

Welcome, friends. We gather here today to celebrate the wedding of Shawn and Amy. We share in this commitment they make to one another, offer our love and support, so they may start their married life.

Shawn, Amy, the step which you are about to take is the most important into which human beings can take. It is a union of two people founded upon mutual respect and affection. Your lives will change, your responsibilities will increase, but your joy will be multiplied if you are sincere and earnest with your pledge to one another.

Shawn, will you have this woman to be your wedded wife, to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, forsaking all others, for so long as you both shall live?

Amy, will you have this man to be your wedded husband, to love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, forsaking all others, for so long as you both shall live?

If you will please join hands.

Shawn, please repeat after me: “I, Shawn, take you, Amy,

to be my wedded wife,

to have and to hold,

for better for worse,

for richer, for poorer,

to love and to cherish,

from this day forward.”

~

Amy, please repeat after me: I, Amy, take you, Shawn,

to be my wedded husband,

to have and to hold,

for better, for worse,

for richer, for poorer,

to love and to cherish,

from this day forward.”

Shawn, do you have a ring for Amy?  Place this ring on your Bride's finger and say: ‘With this ring, I thee wed.’

Amy, do you have a ring for Shawn? Place this ring on your Groom's finger and say: ‘With this ring I thee wed.’

These eternal bands have been given and received as a token of your affection, sincerity and fidelity to one another. Let them be a daily reminder of your love and your promise to one another.

Shawn and Amy, you have consented before witnesses to live in wedlock, and you have pledged your vows to one another. I have witnessed the same before this company. By the authority vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife.

Shawn, you may now kiss your bride.

Friends, may I present to you, Mr. & Mrs...!
