The Vows:
This man, John, and this woman, Trisha, are here today to
exchange marriage vows to one another. We, their family,
friends and loved ones, are here both as witness to these
vows and to celebrate John and Trisha’s partnership.
In the final accounting, love and the search for love, are
what life is about. Love is many things. Love is patient
and kind. It does not envy, does not boast. It is not
proud or self-seeking. It is not easily angered and keeps
no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, rather
rejoices with the truth. It always protects, trusts,
hopes, and perseveres. The fulfillment of love in marriage
and the union it symbolizes is one of life's highest
experiences.
And we share in this great experience today.
Though we have assembled to witness the vows John and
Trisha make; the true union is in their hearts and is
formed from mutual love, concern, trust and respect.
John and Trisha, please join hands.
John, please repeat after me: “I take you, Trisha, to be
my wife, lover and best friend.” [John repeat]
“I promise to be faithful and honest. I will respect,
trust, help and care for you.” [John repeat]
“I will share my life with you and everything that is to
come for the rest of our lives together.” [John repeat]
Trisha, please repeat after me: “I take you, John, to be
my husband, lover and best friend.” [Trisha repeat]
“I promise to be faithful and honest. I will respect,
trust, help and care for you.” [Trisha repeat]
“I will share my life with you and everything that is to
come for the rest of our lives together.” [Trisha repeat]
It used to be said that in marriage man and woman become
one. John and Trisha, you have given yourselves to love;
but you do not give your individuality away. It is your
uniqueness that the other needs, that drew you together.
You understand and believe that each of you is stronger
for having two hearts -- two wills -- two bodies -- to
rely on and trust. Let it be known, this day forth, you
stand, not as one, but together.
John, do you have a ring for your bride? [“I do.”]
Place this ring on Trisha's finger and say: ‘I give you
this ring as a sign of my love and commitment to
you.’ [John slips ring onto finger as he repeats]
Trisha, do you have a ring for your groom? [“I do.”] Place
this ring on John's finger and say: ‘I give you this ring
as a sign of my love and commitment to you.’ [Trisha slips
ring onto finger as she repeats]
John and Trisha, by the virtue of the authority vested in
me, I pronounce you husband and wife.
John, you may kiss your Bride.
